January in Siena, a seemingly quiet month that hides many activities! After the Christmas holidays the city continues to come alive even in the depths of winter. To shelter from the cold this month, take advantage of the many unmissable events scheduled including exhibitions, shows, music, theatre, tastings and much more!

EXHIBITIONS AND WORKSHOPS
An opportunity not to be missed by Jan. 19 is a visit to the exhibition “DITTICI OCCASIONALI. Ossia la causalità dell’arte” curated by Lucia Simona Pacchierotti and Carlo Pennatini, at the Santa Maria della Scala Museum Complex.
In the sumptuous Palazzo Sansedoni, headquarters of the MPS Foundation, will be held until January 31st the exhibition dossier “Light and color in Francesco Guardi’s painting” edited by Vernice Progetti Culturali: a selection of works by the Venetian painter considered one of the greatest Italian landscape painters of the eighteenth century, known for the “sentimental views” that anticipated Romanticism.
Inside the Magazzini del Sale, at the Civic Museum, the exhibition “Dario Neri and Mario Luzi. The landscape state of mind”, which wants to investigate the theme of landscape between city and countryside.
Until Feb. 25, it is possible to visit the exhibition “GIUSEPPE GAVAZZI. A perfect coincidence,” curated by Mauro Civai, Andrea Sbardellati, and Enrico Toti, at the Magazzini della Corticella of Santa Maria della Scala. The exhibition offers a comprehensive review of terracotta and wood sculptures that recount fifty years of a luminous career. The works predominantly depict the human figure, rendered in its daily and spontaneous attitudes.
Unmissable is the exhibition “Fausto Melotti. Lightly. A tribute to Italo Calvino”, dedicated to the friendship between the writer and the artist. The exhibition itinerary winds through 22 sculptures of various sizes and many drawings, spanning a period from 1935 to 1985. The exhibition in particular refers to the works that became images of Calvino’s books due to the re-edition of his writings in the Oscar Mondadori series, which took place in the 2000s.
Everyone should have the opportunity to discover art! Thanks to a team of specialized educators, the “Art for all – Free to experiment” initiative was born , dedicated to children and young people with autism spectrum disorder. Participation in the meeting on January 20th (from 10 to 11.30) at the Santa Maria della Scala is free, but booking is mandatory. The National Art Gallery of Siena is organizing drawing workshops open to everyone, adults and children, on January 10th and January 31st. It will be possible to immerse yourself in the museum’s masterpieces through the technique of life drawing, followed by the Pinacoteca staff, with an activity suitable for different levels of ability. THEATER
The opera is scheduled at the Teatro dei Rinnovati from 12 to 14 January Laughter of joy. Stories of people at the theater, directed by Elena Bucci and Marco Sgrosso.
From January 19 to 21 comes to the stage La signora del martedì, directed by Pierpaolo Sepe, with leading actors Giuliana De Sio and Alessandro Haber.
With an all-female cast, Shakespeare’s Othello directed by Andrea Baracco goes on stage Jan. 26-29, a tragedy that questions us about the ambiguity of nature and human relationships.
For the little ones there are two appointments at the Teatro dei Rozzi. Colors arrives on January 13th, a dance, image and digital design show aimed at boys and girls aged 4 to 8. On January 27, the following is staged. Dear Wolf, a coming-of-age story for children ages 3 and up.

MUSIC
In 2024 the Micat in Vertice season continues with two concerts scheduled, the concert season of the Accademia Musicale Chigiana.
January 12 at the Rozzi Theater, at 9 p.m., Sayaka Shoji on violin and Gianluca Cascioli on piano will perform.
On January 19th at 9.00 pm the Teatro dei Rozzi hosts the concert of the Pantoum Trio, winner of the XXI International Competition “Trio di Trieste Award”. They will play Hugo Meder on violin, Bo-Geun Park on cello and Kojiro Okada on piano.
