EXHIBITIONS

It’s the last few days to visit the free exhibition “In Campo la Balzana,” open until May 5, 2024. Located in the charming Magazzini del Sale within the Palazzo Pubblico, the exhibition will take you on a journey through the Historical Parade of the Palio di Siena through the municipal mounts. The exhibition tells the story of the Historical Parade of the Palio di Siena over the centuries. Following an initial chronological path from the late fifteenth-century origins of the procession to the nineteenth century, the main focus of the exhibition will be the municipal costumes used from 1904 to the present day, which are currently not visible to the public and have only recently been inventoried.

At the Santa Maria della Scala Museum, you can visit two exhibitions:

  • “Aleardo Paolucci: Between Pienza, Siena, and Rome on the trail of Pio II,” a prestigious exhibition celebrating the art of Aleardo Paolucci (1927-2013) through 54 works dedicated to Pope Pius II, spanning the art cities of Siena and Pienza and ending in Rome. The exhibition runs until June 9.
  • “Oggetto Libro” at the Santa Maria della Scala, from March 23 to July 7, 2024, is a nationally significant event. After the resounding success at the Adi Design Museum in Milan in October 2023, this fifth edition expands, bringing the art of the artist’s book and design to various locations in central and southern Italy, including the charming setting of Siena. It exhibits works from the V Biennale, including 4 installations and 46 artist’s books, hybrids, and designs, some enriched with augmented reality. Also on display are the winning books of the first Best Book Award. An immersion into the world of contemporary book creativity.

MARKETS AND FAIRS

From May 10 to 12, it’s time for “Siena in Fiore” (Siena in Bloom). This spring event transforms the city with a plant and flower market in the picturesque Gardens of the Fountain of San Prospero, along the historic walls of the Fortezza Medicea. Specialized exhibitors will offer a wide selection of garden and indoor plants, pots, and gardening accessories. An unmissable opportunity for citizens and tourists, with free admission from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm.

Every third Sunday of the month, don’t forget the appointment in Piazza del Mercato with “L’Angolo del Collezionista” (The Collector’s Corner), a market of antiques, modern antiques, and collectibles. Therefore, an ideal appointment for vintage object and clothing enthusiasts.
