The month of August is perfect for planning a visit to Siena!

This beautiful summer month offers a wide range of cultural activities amid the centuries-old traditions of the city of Contrade: in fact, the Palio dell’Assunta takes place in August.

In the week leading up to the August 16 the atmosphere of the city begins to change: in Piazza del Campo stages are erected and tuff is spread, as the contrade prepare for the big day: these are moments charged with energy, and you can witness the evidence in the days Aug. 13 to 16.

SHOWS AND CONCERTS

The Siena Summer Festival calendar of events continues in the Medici Fortress! Live music, literary reviews with prominent names from the local and national scene, sunset DJ sets and more!

The Chigiana International Festival & Summer Academythroughout August through Sept. 2, 2023 will offer performances dedicated to music, musical theater and other related events, divided into 6 engaging thematic tracks centered on the concept of “Word.”

Under the guidance of artistic director Nicola Sani, the Chigiana International Festival & Summer Academy aims to explore the broad spectrum of the word through an artistic journey spanning different eras and musical styles.

EXHIBITIONS AND GUIDED TOURS

It is scheduled at the Complesso Museale Santa Maria della Scala the Raggioverde exhibition, a group show of 23 artists and 250 works that grew out of more than a year of meetings and comparisons between artists and the scientific world. Landscape and the environment, art and sustainability: these are the two binomials at the heart of the exhibition “Greening. The exhibition will remain open until September 13, 2023.

A Palazzo Chigi Zondadari on display until November 9, 2023 “Àitason” by Paolo William Tamburella, a project that transforms the courtyard and halls of Palazzo Chigi Zondadari in Siena’s Piazza del Campo into an exhibition space dedicated to works site-specific of Italian and international artists invited by Flavio Misciattelli, president of the Palazzo Chigi Zondadari Foundation, to freely interpret the space.

From Aug. 18 to Oct. 18, 2023, Siena Cathedral will unveil its magnificent marble commesso floor.

During the rest of the year, the floor remains protected and covered to preserve it from the passage of visitors. However, during these special times, it is revealed in its extraordinary beauty, giving a unique experience to anyone who observes it.

Through August 31, 2023, the Accademia Musicale Chigiana Foundation, in collaboration with Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena, is offering visitors guided tours, available in Italian or English, to explore Palazzo Chigi Saracini and its artistic and cultural treasures.
