The countdown continues in Siena for the Giro d’Italia, which will arrive in Piazza del Campo on Sunday, May 18. To ensure the event runs safely, the Municipality of Siena has issued an ordinance with important changes to traffic and tourist bus parking.

Main restrictions
From 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 17 to 11:00 PM on Sunday, May 18, the “ex campino” stop in San Prospero will be inaccessible to tourist buses.
On Sunday, May 18, from 12:00 PM to approximately 6:00 PM (time may vary based on race progress), buses will not be able to enter or exit the “Il Fagiolone” parking lot, which lies within the race route. The parking facility will thus be severely limited. The Municipality of Siena advises that bus parking will be particularly difficult on May 18, as no alternative area will be available to replace “Il Fagiolone.”

Two access options will be allowed for groups with pre-scheduled trips to Siena on Sunday, May 18:

  1. Access to the ZTL (Limited Traffic Zone) with parking at “Il Fagiolone” (reservation recommended)

    • Drop-off points Porta San Marco and Piazza Amendola will be available only during 8:00–11:30 AMand 6:00–8:00 PM.

    • After dropping off passengers, the bus may reach “Il Fagiolone” by 12:00 PM, and may only leave after 6:00 PM.

    • Access will be possible only if parking spaces are available at “Il Fagiolone.”

    • A permit can be purchased on site, but advance reservation is highly recommended.

  2. Access to the ZTL without parking at “Il Fagiolone”

    • Throughout the day, access to the ZTL Bus area will be allowed even without a permit, but only for passenger drop-off and pick-up at designated no-parking areas:

      • Strada di Pescaia (overpass area) – accessible only 8:00–11:30 AM and 6:00 PM–12:00 AM

      • Piazza Amendola (dedicated area)

      • Piazzale Marcello Biringucci (Porta San Marco)

      • Strada dei Tufi (area outside Porta Tufi)

      • Via Baldassarre Peruzzi (in front of San Francesco parking entrance)

 Exceptionally tolerated parking
As an exceptional measure, temporary parking of tourist buses inside the ZTL Bus area will be tolerated on Sunday, May 18, as long as it does not obstruct traffic. Recommended peripheral areas:

  • Industrial zone of Isola d’Arbia

  • Strada di Ribucciano

  • Viale Europa
Drivers should remain near the vehicle and be ready to move if needed.
