If you’re a student in Siena, you probably already know how rich the city is in history and culture. But you might not be aware that, in addition to its architectural wonders, Siena also offers numerous green spaces where you can relax, study, or exercise. Whether you enjoy a refreshing walk, a jog, or simply some outdoor time to focus on your studies, you’ll find parks and green areas both within and beyond the historic center.

Siena’s green heritage

The Municipality of Siena boasts an extensive green heritage, including parks, municipal gardens, sports and school facilities, and a large forest area: the Lecceto Forest. With around 539 hectares of green space, Siena is one of the greenest cities in Tuscany, making it the perfect place for students seeking a peaceful retreat between classes and exams.

In addition to the Lecceto Forest, which spans 360 hectares and is an ideal destination for hiking and nature immersion (click here for the Lecceto Loop Hike), the city is home to over 15,000 trees, thousands of shrubs, and kilometers of hedges. Every neighborhood has its own dedicated green space, meaning you can easily access these areas without traveling far.
