Siena, renowned for its rich history and cultural heritage, is making significant strides toward becoming a more inclusive and accessible city. Through a variety of dedicated initiatives and services, the Municipality of Siena is committed to improving the quality of life for people with disabilities, ensuring greater independence and participation in city life. Below are some of the key services that highlight the city’s efforts toward accessibility and inclusion.

Taxi Service for People with Disabilities

In collaboration with the Consorzio Tassisti Senesi, the Municipality of Siena has launched a dedicated taxi service for people with mobility impairments. Known as “Taxi Amico,” this service uses specially equipped vehicles to ensure comfort and accessibility during transport. To book a taxi, simply call +39 0577 49222.

Additionally, a free taxi service is available for disabled individuals to assist with navigating Siena’s steep inclines. This service allows transportation between the upper and lower entrances of the city’s escalators and can be requested by calling Siena Parcheggi at +39 0577 228799.

Disability Advocate: A key role for inclusion

Siena was one of the first cities in Italy to establish the position of a Disability Advocate, offering free support to residents with disabilities. This role is crucial for promoting the rights and social inclusion of people with disabilities, as well as working to eliminate physical and cultural barriers.

If you are a student with disabilities in Siena and require support during your university experience, the Disability Advocate can assist by acting as a liaison with the university. This support can address issues related to the accessibility of services and facilities, ensuring your needs are properly considered and met.

The Disability Advocate, Lawyer Monica Barbafiera, is available by appointment on Thursday afternoons at Palazzo Berlinghieri, Piazza Il Campo, 7. You can contact her by email at garante.disabili@comune.siena.it or call +39 320 3124201.
